Henry Godinez will stage the world premiere production that is described as a "bittersweet tale of the strange powers of love [that] spans four decades, from Puerto Rico in 1953 to years later in the United States, when a shattered heart must face an astounding test of devotion."

Boleros for the Disenchanted will officially open May 1 and play a limited engagement through May 17.

The company includes Lucia Brawley, Joe Minoso, Gary Perez, Adriana Sevan, Felix Solis and Sona Tatoyan.

The Yale Rep staging features original music by Gustavo Leone, with a creative team including Linda Buchanan (scenic design), Yuri Cataldo (costume design), Joe Appelt (lighting design) and Veronika Vorel (sound design).

Rivera is the Obie Award-winning playwright of Marisol and References to Salvador Dali Make Me Hot. His plays include Cloud Tectonics, Each Day Dies with Sleep, Sonnets for an Old Century, Sueno, Giants Have Us in Their Books, Marciela de la Luz Lights the World, Adoration of the Old Woman, Massacre (Sing to Your Children) and School of the Americas. An Academy Award nominee for his screenplay for "The Motorcycle Diaries," Rivera is currently adapting Cloud Tectonics for the screen, in addition to a film of Jack Kerouac's "On the Road." Boleros for the Disenchanted will also appear as part of the season at San Francisco's A.C.T. May 7-June 7, 2009.
