News Yiddish Pirates of Penzance Returns March 18 The Yiddish version of Gilbert and Sullivan’s Pirates of Penzance,, entitled Di Yam Gazlonim!, is returning to Manhattan's Jewish Community Center for 21 performances March 18-April 8, 2007, courtesy of the National Yiddish Theater-Folksbiene.

Di Yam Gazlonim! — which has simultaneous English and Russian supertitles — sold out its 16-performance run from Oct. 29-Nov. 12. The company has postponed its previously scheduled American premiere of Menakhem-Mendl: The Dreamer.

Al Grand, the translator, has been working on the musical since 1988. The cast of 14 includes Stephen Mo Hanan as the Major General, Dani Marcus as Mabel, Steven Sterner as the Pirate King and Allen Lewis Rickman, who also directs.

Vicki Davis designed the set and Russel Drapkin designed the lighting. Music direction is by Zalmen Mlotek.
