News York Theatre Season to Include Three Premieres and Is There Life After High School? The York Theatre Company — which is currently presenting a return engagement of The Musical of Musicals — has announced its upcoming season.

The 2004-2005 season will kick off with Souvenir, a new play with music by Stephen Temperley. Vivian Matalon will direct the production, which examines the career of coloratura Florence Foster Jenkins and her relationship with her accompanist, Cosmé McMoon. Souvenir will play the York Nov. 23, 2004-Jan. 2, 2005. A new revue by Kenward Elmslie will follow, playing Feb. 1-March 13, 2005. Entitled LingoLand, the musical revue will spotlight the words of librettist, lyricist and poet Elmslie. With direction by James Morgan, the creative team will also include Jack Lee (music supervisor), Andrew Gerle (music director) and Janet Watson (musical staging). LingoLand will feature music by Claibe Richardson, Ned Rorem, Jack Beeson, Steven Taylor, Richard Evans and Andrew Gerle.

A third mainstage musical-to-be-announced will play the York April-June 2005, and the season will also include six Musicals in Mufti offerings. That series of musicals-in-concert is set to include Greenwillow, Craig Carnelia's Is There Life After High School? and King's Rhapsody. The Musicals in Mufti concerts are scheduled for Oct. 8-10, Oct. 15-17 and Oct. 22-24; the spring concerts will be held March 18-20, 2005, March 25-27 and April 1-3.
