News York Theatre to Present Stephen Schwartz's Captain Louie in May
The York Theatre Company in association with Meridee Stein, Pam Koslow and Kurt Peterson will present Captain Louie, a new family musical by Wicked's Stephen Schwartz, beginning May 4.

Based on Ezra Jack Keats' "The Trip," Captain Louie features a score by Schwartz and a book by Anthony Stein. Meridee Stein directs the musical, which features musical direction by Edward Barnes. The limited engagement runs through June 12.

Captain Louie, according to production notes, "is the story of a young boy on Halloween night who takes off on flights of his own imagination as a means of coping with the loneliness he feels when he moves to a new neighborhood."

Captain Louie will play Fridays at 6:45 PM, Saturdays at 11:30 and 2:30 PM and Sundays at 1 and 3 PM. Specially priced performances for schools and children's groups will be available Wednesdays and Thursdays at 10:30 AM and 12:30 PM.

Stephen Schwartz, a Dramatists Guild council member, composed the scores for Wicked, Godspell, Pippin, The Magic Show, Rags, The Baker's Wife and Children of Eden. He has also written for several film musicals, including "Pocahontas," "The Hunchback of Notre Dame," "The Prince of Egypt" and the TV musical "Geppetto." His solo CDs of new songs are titled "Reluctant Pilgrim" and "Uncharted Territory." Schwartz is the recipient of three Academy Awards, three Grammy Awards and three Drama Desk Awards. Wicked currently plays Broadway's Gershwin Theatre.

The York Theatre Company is located at 619 Lexington Avenue. Tickets will be on sale shortly.
