The fifth Festival of Spanish Contemporary Theatre is to be held in the Spanish city of Alicante, November 15th - 22nd.
Several theatres of the city are going to take part in the event, which includes debates about present drama writing, performances of contemporary plays and pays homage to the Spanish author Jose Maria Martin Recuerda.
As the event's director explained to Playbill, "this enterprise intends to demonstrate that there are lots of playwrights belonging to the Spanish 90's theatre who are writing outstanding plays, although these are only performed in alternative theatres."
Among the plays to be performed in Alicante during the festival, we should point out Rey Negro (Black King) by the National Dramatic Centre, Lobas y Zorras (She-Wolves and She-Foxes) by Francisco Nieva, Equivocados (Wrong Ones) by Emilio Hernandez, Holiday Out by Itziar Pascual, and Seis brazos pequenos (Six Small Arms) by Vicente Molina.
Debate topics include female playwrights and female stage directors. --By Carlos Lorenzo
