News #9 to Feature Smith, Cheek, Dellapina and Towley Off-Broadway Casting has been announced for the Americas Off-Broadway presentation of the Waterwell Production of #9, scheduled to begin performances at 59E59 Theaters June 5.

New York-based Waterwell's #9 marks the final presentation of Americas Off-Broadway, which offers Gotham theatregoers a selection of acclaimed regional theatre productions from across the country. The work officially opens June 11 and will run through June 28.

Created by the members of Waterwell and directed by Tom Ridgely, #9 has music composed by Lauren Cregor and Waterwell and choreography by Monica Bill Barnes.

Set to appear in the production are Hanna Cheek (Marco Millions), Matt Dellapina (of The Civilians), David Ryan Smith (Passing Strange) and Kevin Townley (Shockheaded Peter).

According to press notes, "Brilliant innovations allow people to give and get information, share opinions and express feelings in ways that were unimaginable six years ago. In some ways this is great progress. In other ways it is massive regression. #9 explores these web 2.0 technologies and how they transform identities and relationships. Music, movement and text combine to convey the experiences of four friends in a strange, bewildering world of cyber-immersion."

Designing the Waterwell production are Nick Benacerraf (set), Thom Weaver (lights), Elizabeth Payne (costumes) and Dustin O'Neill (video). Founded in 2002, Waterwell is a group of artists dedicated to new forms of collaborative theatre. The company has been nominated for three New York Innovative Theatre Awards, a Drama Desk and a New York Magazine Culture Award.
