Classic Arts News 92nd Street Y Announces 2005-06 Season The 92nd Street's Tisch Center for the Arts will present series of concerts by the Tokyo String Quartet, scholar-pianist Charles Rosen, and musicians of the New York Philharmonic in 2005-06, the New York venue announced.
The Tokyo Quartet's three-year residency at the Y was schedule to end next season, but the group has agreed to extend it through 2008-09. In 2006-06, the group will play the music of Mozart exclusively, in honor of the 250th anniversary of the composer's birth.

For the second year, Rosen, the author of The Classical Style and other books, will present a series of lecture-recitals; he too will focus on Mozart next season, examining the myths surrounding the composer and the reasons for his continued popularity.

The New York Philharmonic's series, which began two years ago, presents the orchestra's principal players in chamber music concerts with visiting soloists. Soloists next year include soprano Heidi Grant Murphy and violinist Gil Shaham.

Other highlights include "Isaac Bound," an interdisciplinary exploration of the Jewish High Holidays with baritone Sanford Sylvan as music director. The groundbreaking chamber group eighth blackbird marks its 10th anniversary with a program featuring five New York premieres.

The 30th season of the Chamber Music at the Y series features artistic director Jaime Laredo in performance with a number of prominent colleagues, including pianist Peter Serkin, violist Michael Tree, and pianist Joseph Kalichstein.
