News   A Day in the Death of Macbeth: Izzard to Play Doomed Scot in 2006 Macbeth may have been a bit short-sighted as leaders go, but actor Eddie Izzard believes in planning ahead. The British comedian and actor has announced plans to play Shakespeare's Scottish king in a 2006 New York production.

Izzard told Variety that he aims to star opposite his A Day in the Death of Joe Egg co-star Victoria Hamilton. Both actors did well by the recent Roundabout Theatre Company revival of that Peter Nichols play. No producers or director have been attached to the project.

In Joe Egg, Izzard played the frustrated husband of Hamilton. Their characters were the parents of a physically and mentally disabled child who is draining the life from their marriage and lives. Izzard was nominated for a Tony Award, and was widely expected to win. Brian Dennehy took home the prize instead for his turn in Long Day's Journey Into Night.

The last Macbeth to grace Broadway was the short-lived production starring Kelsey Grammer.
