MCC Theater's world premiere of A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Gynecologic Oncology Unit at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center of New York City officially opens June 7. Beth Behrs (2 Broke Girls), making her New York stage debut, leads the cast of the new play by Halley Feiffer about two strangers who meet in a hospital.

Behrs is joined by Obie winner Lisa Emery (Jessica Jones), Jacqueline Sydney and Erik Lochtefeld. Directed by Trip Cullman, the Off-Broadway show began performances May 19.

“In A Funny Thing Happened…, a foul-mouthed twenty-something comedian and a middle-aged man embroiled in a nasty divorce are brought together unexpectedly when their cancer-stricken mothers become roommates in the hospital,” state press notes. “Together, this unlikely duo must negotiate some of life’s biggest challenges... while making some of the world’s most inappropriate jokes. Can these two very lost people learn to laugh through their pain and lean on each other when all they really want to do is run away?”

The design team for A Funny Thing Happened… includes sets by Lauren Helpern, costumes by Kaye Voyce, lighting by Matthews Richards and sound by Tony winner Darron L West. Samantha Watson is the stage manager.
