News Abigail Set to Party in the West End

All is now revealed... The Woman Who Cooked Her Husband recently announced that it would close on Nov. 30, a week earlier than planned. It seems the reason was to ease the transfer of Abigail's Party from Hampstead into the West End.

Abigail's Party, by Mike Leigh, was a stage play (1977) that became a hugely successful television one, making Alison Steadman a household name. The latest production, at Hampstead Theatre (where the original had been staged 25 years earlier), opened on July 10 and will run there until Nov. 9 (with a short break from Sept. 29 to Oct. 13).

The New Ambassador's, which has a younger than usual West End audience and has something of a tradition of staging dark and off-beat comedies, will be an ideal venue for Leigh's hilarious but decidedly dark take on a suburban evening with a hostess from hell.
