NewSCRipts, South Coast Repertory's annual series of play readings, begins its 14th season 7:30 PM Oct. 5, with Daniel Goldfarb's Adam Baum and the Jew Movie. The performance is on the South Coast Rep's mainstage in Costa Mesa, CA.
The new work is part of a five-play reading series this season.
Goldfarb's script, according to a statement, involves Samuel Baum hiring "a gentile screenwriter to draft a script about anti- semitism, not expecting it to be written from a Jewish perspective. A heated argument between the two men over what it means to be an American Jew continues at the Bar Mitzvah of Baum's son, Adam, who becomes an unwilling participant."
Set in the 1940s, the play was suggested by a two-line story Ring Lardner Jr. told about his father's dealings with Samuel Goldwyn.
Tickets are $8. The SCR is at 655 Town Center Drive. Call (714) 708-5555.
