The Greek Minotaur myth is getting a contemporary retelling by a Dutch playwright aboard an historic American ferry.

Lost Tribe Theatre Company is producing Hella Haasse's A Thread in the Dark, Sept. 10-Oct. 3, aboard the Yankee Ferry at Pier 25 in Tribeca. Opening night is Sept. 17.

Haasse's work is told from the perspective of King Minos' daughter Ariadne, who discovers that the Minotaur that supposedly threatens Crete is really just something invented by her father to keep his supporters and his rivals living in fear. Determined to reveal the truth, Ariadne and sister Phaedra flee to Athens.

Directed by Heather Ondersma, whose production Why Mudflaps? received an Excellence Award for ensemble performance at the 2000 New York International Fringe Festival, the production is designed by Kate Duffus (costumes), Molly Eness (sets) and Doyle Ott (masks).

The seven-year-old Lost Tribe is a resident company of the Bank Street Theater. The Yankee Ferry is at Pier 25 in Tribeca. Tickets are $15. Call (212) 252 6835.
