Classic Arts News American Ballet Theatre Names Principal Dancer American Ballet Theatre has promoted soloist Michele Wiles to the rank of principal dancer, ABT announced yesterday.
Wiles grew up in Washington, D.C, and studied at the Kirov Academy of Ballet there. She joined the American Ballet Theatre Studio Company in 1997 and became a member of the corps de ballet in 1998. She was promoted to soloist in 2000.

The roles Wiles has danced with the company include Gamzatti in La Bayadre, Odette-Odile in Swan Lake, Medora in Le Corsaire, Myrta in Giselle, and the title roles in Raymonda and Sylvia.

The ABT is currently performing its spring season at the Metropolitan Opera House. Wiles will be seen in Le Corsaire, Giselle, and Swan Lake in the remaining weeks of the season.
