American Idiot's cast album recently won the Grammy Award for Best Show Album. The musical was nominated for a 2010 Tony Award as Best Musical. Directed by Michael Mayer, who co-wrote the libretto with Green Day front man and lyricist Billie Joe Armstrong, American Idiot (with music by Green Day) takes all of the songs from the famous punk album (and more from Green Day's catalog) and fashions a story of three lifelong friends who choose between their dreams and the safety of suburbia. "Their quest for meaning in a post 9-11 world leads them on an exhilarating journey," according to producers.
American Idiot continues at Broadway's St. James Theatre.
