PlayBlog American Idiot Kicks Off Broadway Week on "Regis and Kelly" American Idiot cast members John Gallagher, Jr., Michael Esper and Stark Sands visited “Live with Regis and Kelly” April 26 to kick off the talk show’s annual Broadway Week by performing the haunting Green Day ballad, “Wake Me Up When September Ends.”

The segment also features ample production footage of the show, as well as a look at Green Day’s message on the St. James Theatre wall (where audience members are invited to leave their thoughts and gushes) and backstage and red carpet peeks at opening night.

American Idiot opened April 20 at the St. James. Director Michael Mayer co-wrote the book with Green Day front-man and main lyricist Billie Jo Armstrong. The show brings the punk rockers’ acclaimed album of the same title to the stage and also incorporates material from their most recent album, “21st Century Breakdown.”
