News   American Repertory Theater Will Open Season with David Adjmi's Marie Antoinette

Marie Antoinette, a new comedy by Elective Affinities and Stunning playwright David Adjmi, will open the 2012-13 season of the American Repertory Theater.

Rebecca Taichman will stage the world premiere that is a co-production with the Yale Repertory Theatre, where it will play Oct. 26-Nov. 17. Dates of the A.R.T. run have not been announced.

According to A.R.T., "The young queen Marie Antoinette delights and inspires her French subjects with her three-foot tall wigs and extravagant haute couture. But times change and even the most fashionable queens go out of style. In Adjmi's humorous and haunting Marie Antoinette, idle gossip turns more insidious as the country revolts, demanding liberté, égalité, fraternité!"

Adjmi's short play Elective Affinities received its New York debut in a site-specific production Off-Broadway this season with Tony winner Zoe Caldwell. His plays also include Stunning, Strange Attractors, The Evildoers and Caligula, which was staged at Soho Rep. His play 3C will premiere in June at Rattlestick Playwrights Theatre in a co-production between piece by piece productions, Rising Phoenix Repertory and Rattlestick Playwrights Theatre.

A.R.T. will also present a new production of of Stephen Schwartz's Tony Award-nominated musical Pippin, under the direction of Tony nominee Diane Paulus, who will collaborate with Gypsy Snider of the Montreal-based circus company Les 7 doigts de la main (7 Fingers). It will debut in December.
