Broadway News Andy Karl Takes Matinees Off as He Recovers from Groundhog Day Injury Andrew Call will take center stage April 26 and 29.

Andy Karl will continue to take off select performances from Groundhog Day as he recovers from a torn ACL sustained during a preview of the new musical.

Karl, who received a Drama League Award nomination April 19 for his leading performance as Phil Connors, will perform Tuesday–Saturday evening and Sunday performances April 25–30. Understudy Andrew Call will assume the role for the 2 PM matinee performances Wednesday, April 26 and Saturday, April 29.

Karl suffered an onstage injury during the second act of the April 14 performance of the Tim Minchin and Danny Rubin musical. Following a brief hold, Karl finished the remaining 15 minutes of the show, walking with a cane. The subsequent April 15 matinee was canceled, and Call performed that evening.

The production, directed by Matthew Warchus, opened officially April 17. Call took center stage April 19, 20, and 22.
