Classic Arts News Angela Hewitt Awarded OBE Canadian pianist Angela Hewitt was named an Officer of the British Empire on June 16 as part of celebrations of the Queen's 80th birthday.
"As a Canadian (but also with British nationality through my father), I feel greatly honoured!" she wrote in an entry on her website.

She will receive the award at a ceremony at Buckingham Palace sometime during the next five months.

Hewitt is a noted Bach specialist and has recorded the composer's complete works for Hyperion Records. Her discography also includes Granados, Messiaen, Couperin, the complete piano works of Ravel and the complete Chopin Nocturnes.

The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire was established in 1917 by King George V. The Order includes five classes in civil and military divisions.
