News Anya Reiss Adapts The Seagull for New London Production at Southwark Playhouse Anya Reiss, the award-winning playwright whose first play Spur of the Moment was written when she was 17 and won her both the Evening Standard and Critics' Circle Awards for Most Promising Playwright, is adapting Chekhov's The Seagull for a new production that will begin performances at London's Southwark Playhouse Nov. 8, prior to an official opening Nov. 12.

Directed by Russell Bolam, the cast will include Matthew Kelly as Dorn. Further casting is still to be announced.

Reiss wrote her first play when she was 14 before becoming a member of the Royal Court Theatre's Young Writers' Programme. Her debut play Spur of the Moment opened at the Royal Court Theatre in 2010, and was followed by The Acid Test, also at the Royal Court, in 2011.

Bolam has previously directed Shivered at Southwark Playhouse. He has also directed at the Arcola, Finborough, Tristan Bates and Old Red Lion theatres. He is currently developing a new site-specific play called The Embassy at the National Theatre Studio.

Kelly has most recently been seen in Educating Rita (at the Menier Chocolate Factory and Edinburgh Festival), Legally Blonde and Spamalot (national tours), Buried Child (Curve Leicester), Waiting For Godot (Theatre Royal Haymarket and rnternational tour) and Sign Of The Times and Lend Me A Tenor - The Musical (both West End). He won the Best Actor Olivier Award for Of Mice and Men in 2003.
