In the interview, broadcast from Arena's newly opened Mead Center for American Theater, Smith discusses the development and construction of Arena's new home, as well as her own background, from growing up in Washington State and Alaska, to studying theatre in D.C. in the 1970s, to founding and running the Perseverance Theatre in Alaska, to returning to Arena Stage and focusing its mission on new and classic American plays and musicals.
