As previously reported, director Diane Paulus and her team were considering both men and women to play the role of the mysterious Leading Player, which was originated on Broadway by Ben Vereen. The actor earned a 1973 Tony Award for his performance.

The A.R.T. production will be directed by Tony Award nominee Paulus (Hair, Porgy and Bess). Tony Award-winning Chicago and Scottsboro Boys producers Barry and Fran Weissler, as well as Howard and Janet Kagan are attached to the project. Mr. Kagan is among the producers of the Tony Award-winning Broadway revival of Porgy and Bess, which originated at A.R.T. The Kagans are also producers of David Mamet's new Broadway play The Anarchist.

Pippin will receive a July 30-Aug. 19 developmental workshop in Cambridge, MA, which precedes an official production scheduled to begin Dec. 1. Pippin will officially open Dec. 19 for a run through Jan. 20, 2013.

Miller previously worked with Paulus in a concert staging of Hair at the Delacorte Theater in 2007, which led to a full 2008 Shakespeare in the Park production and subsequent Broadway run. Miller did not repeat her work in the Broadway production.

The Times also states that the workshop cast will feasture Damon Daunno (Brief Encounter) as Pippin, while Tony-nominated theatre couple Terrence Mann (Les Miserables, The Scarlet Pimpernel) and Charlotte D'Amboise (Chicago, Carrie) will portray King Charles and Fastrada, respectively. Paulus will collaborate with Gypsy Snider of the Montreal-based circus company Les 7 doigts de la main (7 Fingers). Snider is also the co-director/choreographer of the Off-Broadway cirque spectacle Traces.

A representative for A.R.T. told Playbill.com that they have not announced any casting.

Pippin has a score by Academy Award winner and Tony nominee Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Godspell, "The Prince of Egypt") and a book by Tony nominee Roger O. Hirson.

Pippin features such songs as "Corner of the Sky," "Magic To Do," "With You," "Glory," "No Time at All," "Morning Glow" and "Love Song."
