News Ayckbourn's The Norman Conquests to Arrive on DVD March 1 The Emmy Award-nominated 1977 broadcast of Alan Ayckbourn's Tony Award-winning trilogy The Norman Conquests, will be released on DVD for the first time in March by Acorn Media.

The comic trilogy, which takes place in various spaces at an English country home over the course of one weekend, was filmed for PBS' "Great Performances" in the late 1970s and has only been available in VHS format since its debut.

Acorn Media will release the three-disc DVD set March 1. The cast features Richard Briers ("Good Neighbors"), Penelope Keith ("To the Manor Born"), Penelope Wilton ("Match Point"), David Troughton ("Fingersmith"), Fiona Walker ("I, Claudius") and Academy Award nominee Tom Conti ("Shirley Valentine").

Here's how Acorn bills the plays: "Passions flare and tempers rise when three couples cross paths at a country house one weekend. It all begins with the arrival of Reg (Briers) and his wife, Sarah (Keith). They’ve come to give Reg’s younger sister, Annie (Wilton), a few days’ break from caring for their bedridden mother. However, Annie confides that she’s seeing someone—not Tom (Troughton), the single young vet who’s pursuing her, but her brother-in-law, Norman (Conti). Appalled, Sarah informs Norman’s wife, Ruth (Walker) and all hell breaks loose."

The DVD release promises a featurette with background on the trilogy and a biography of playwright Ayckbourn.

Comprised of the plays Table Manners, Living Together and Round and Round the Garden, the plays made a celebrated Broadway return in 2009, garnering the Tony Award for Best Play Revival. The Norman Conquests made their Broadway debut in 1975. Visit AcornOnline.
