Back By Popular Demand! Family-Friendly The Commedia Rapunzel Will Return | Playbill

News Back By Popular Demand! Family-Friendly The Commedia Rapunzel Will Return Selected from nearly 200 FringeNYC shows as a "Best Of," The Commedia Rapunzel will play additional performances at the FringeNYC Encore Series at SoHo Playhouse. The family-friendly and participatory show follows a troupe of poor traveling actors as they present a zany, musical adaptation of "Rapunzel."

The Commedia Rapunzel was the only Fringe Jr. show selected to perform at the Encore event. Performances will run Sept. 12-Oct. 2 on select dates only.

Written by Sam LaFrage, who co-directs with Dennis Corsi, the show follows the adventures of the Spaghetti and Meatball Players. The show blends the styles of commedia dell'arte and musical theatre to retell the well-known "Rapunzel" fairy tale.

"This ain’t yo mama’s Rapunzel! Two sassy birds? A gossiping 80’s hairstylist? A Cobbler and his wife from the wrong side of the tracks?...BACK UP NOW!" state press notes.

The Commedia Rapunzel previously played a sold-out run at Columbia Children’s Theatre in South Carolina. It was re-worked and produced this past summer at Philadelphia's Scranton Shakespeare Festival.

The cast features LaFrage as Arlecchino, Natasha Nightingale as Columbina, Billy Aken-Tyers as Rosetta, Conor McGuigan as Pulcinella, Andy Dispensa as Pantelone and Joe McGurl as Zanni. The creative team includes scenic designer Simone Daniel, sound designer LaFrage, costume designer Angela Borst, stage manager Jonathan Steiger and graphic designer Becky Laff. Tickets for kids 13 and under begin at $13, and adult tickets are priced at $18. To purchase and for more information visit TheCommediaRapunzel. SoHo Playhouse is located at 15 Vandam St., Manhattan.
