Forsythe was the longtime director of Ballett Frankfurt, an acclaimed ensemble that folded last year after the city of Frankfurt withdrew its support. The new Forsythe Company, which debuted earlier this year, performs the choreographer's Kammer/Kammer in its first New York engagement, which runs May 2-6.
The Mark Morris Dance Group performs for two weeks in March in a celebration of its 25th anniversary. The program includes two New York premieres: Cargo, set to music by Darius Milhaud, and Candleflowerdance, set to Stravinsky's Serenade in A. The company also revives V, Gloria, Grand Duo, All Fours, Going Away Party, and Morris's settings of Virgil Thomson's opera Four Saints in Three Acts and Purcell's Dido and Aeneas,
Also on the dance schedule is the 29th annual DanceAfrica Festival, directed by Chuck Davis, which runs May 26-28. Music events include the return of Jonathan Miller's staging of Bach's St. Matthew Passion (April 8-15) and, in January, the fourth Rhythm & BAM Festival, featuring gospel, hip-hop, and soul.
The theater lineup includes productions of Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest and Ibsen's Hedda Gabler and Peer Gynt.
