News Be a Piano Man: Movin' Out Has "Big Shot Talent Search Contest," Oct. 7 Broadway's Movin' Out and Washington Mutual bank team up to present the "Big Shot Talent Search Contest," which will kick off Oct. 7 with a performance by the show's piano men Michael Cavanaugh and Wade Preston.

Hosted by WPLJ radio personality Race Taylor, singer/piano players — male and female — are invited to tickle the ivories at the Richard Rodgers Theatre for a chance to perform "New York State of Mind" live at a performance of Movin' Out.

Tony Award nominee Cavanaugh and Preston (who plays piano and provides lead vocals for matinees) will be on hand to kick off the event, 9 AM Oct. 7. Contestants will begin taping their auditions immediately after. The winner will also receive a $1,000 free checking account from Washington Mutual. Videotaped auditions will also be accepted through Oct. 31 with a completed entry form available at any local Washington Mutual or online at www.wamucommunities.com/newYork_movin.asp.

Movin' Out, currently residing at Broadway's Richard Rodgers Theatre, uses Billy Joel's song lyrics and Twyla Tharp's choreography to tell the story of five friends and lovers across three decades through love, war and loss. There is no dialogue and all songs are performed by pianist-singer Michael Cavanaugh, who sings non-stop and heads an on-stage band during the show.

The bookless show received 10 nominations for the 2003 Tony Awards including a nod for Cavanaugh. The production took home two prizes — one for Twyla Tharp (Best Choreography) and one for Billy Joel and Stuart Malina (Best Orchestrations).

Tickets to the Broadway run at the Richard Rodgers, 226 West 46 Street, can be purchased by calling (212) 307-4100. For more information, visit www.movinoutonbroadway.com.
