Screenwriter Darren Stein penned the book to the musical, based on his film, with music and lyrics by Jeff Thomson and Jordan Mann. Jen Bender will direct the upcoming concert, with musical direction by Adam Gubman. Shane Scheel produces the 7 PM event at Barre.
In addition to Wicked vets Bean, Margherita and Thomas, Jawbreaker will feature Liz Brackenbury, Scarlett Cherry, Deborah S. Craig, Jenna Leigh Green, Jason Heymann, Jen Malenke, Jackie Seiden and Katie Thompson.
The musical is described as "a darkly comedic, stylish girl clique musical with the mythic story of Courtney 'Satan in heels' Shayne and her minions who play a nasty birthday prank on their picture perfect bestie. It wasn't their fault the jawbreaker got stuck in her throat...or was it?"
Jawbreaker is often compared to the 1988 dark comedy "Heathers," which is also getting the musical treatment by Legally Blonde composer Laurence O'Keefe, Andy Fickman and Kevin Murphy.
