Alley resident company member James Black will stage Behanding, which opens the season Aug. 27-Sept. 26 on the Neuhaus Stage. McDonagh's dingy hotel room-set play about a disturbed man searching for his missing left hand premiered on Broadway this spring.
Artistic director Gregory Boyd will stage what the Alley bills as a "large scale" production of the J.M. Barrie classic Peter Pan, or The Boy Who Would Not Grow Up. The tale of Peter, Wendy and Captain Hook will run Oct. 1-31 on the Hubbard Stage.
The world premiere of Herbert Siguenza's A Weekend With Pablo Picasso will be presented on the Neuhaus Stage Jan. 28-Feb. 27, 2011. Set in Picasso's private studio, the Alley reveals that the play will delve "into the creative mind and work of one of the most inspiring artists of modern history, [exploring] Picasso’s proclamations about ambition, destruction, creativity and art as an agent of social change."
Shannon Cochran will helm Letts' sprawling work August: Osage County, which will run Feb. 18-March 13, 2011, on the Hubbard Stage. The intricate play, which centers on an Oklahoma family in danger of unraveling, earned the Tony Award for Best Play and the 2008 Pulitzer Prize.
Peter Schaffer's classic Amadeus will be directed by Jonathan Moscone. Presented on the Hubbard Stage April 1-May 1, 2011, the tale of musical obsession and vengeance centers on Mozart and composer Antonio Salieri. As previously reported, the world premiere of The Medusa Body, penned by Pulitzer Prize finalist Rajiv Joseph (Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo), will play the Alley Theatre April 29-May 29, 2011, on the Neuhaus. According to the Alley, "World-renowned artist Maya Akhet is commissioned by a global securities firm to create a painting for the lobby of their world headquarters. She loses her head, stops taking her medication, outwits the corporation’s lawyers and begins to wreak havoc in her studio with a sawed-off shotgun. Unfortunately for her, removing the beast’s head doesn’t always kill the body."
The final production will be George Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion, running May 20-June 12, 2011, on the Hubbard Stage. Boyd will direct the classic about Cockney flower girl Eliza Doolittle and her tutor, Henry Higgins.
The Alley will also offer its annual productions of A Christmas Carol (Nov. 19-Dec. 27, 2010) and David Sedaris' The Santaland Diaries, directed by David Cromer (Nov. 21-Dec. 31, 2010).
