Peters will vacation from the musical Sept. 29-Oct. 4. During her absence, Peters' standby, Maureen Moore, will play the role of Momma Rose. Maureen Moore has appeared on Broadway in Cabaret, Sunset Boulevard, Falsettos, Les Misérables, Jerome Robbins’ Broadway, Amadeus, Big River, I Love My Wife, Moonie Shapiro Songbook and as June in the 1974 production of Gypsy. She also was Peters’ standby in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Song & Dance.
Directed by Academy Award winner Sam Mendes, Gypsy plays Monday through Saturday evenings at 8 PM with matinees on Wednesday and Saturdays at 2 PM. Tickets, priced between $60 and $100, are available at the Shubert Theatre box office (225 West 44th Street) or through Telecharge at (212) 239-6200.
The new cast recording of Gypsy — starring Peters, Tammy Blanchard and John Dossett — was recently released by Angel Records. The CD entered the Billboard charts at 175, the only cast recording currently in the Top 200.
