The event is presented in conjunction with Fidelity FutureStage's playwrighting contest, in which students from ten select New York City and New Jersey high schools are invited to pen a ten-minute one-act play, which will be presented at the Imperial Theatre in June. The participating students will take part in theatre games, improvisation, and also have the opportunity to go back stage at Billy Elliot and meet the musical's Tony-nominated Billys, David Alvarez and Kiril Kulish, as well as Tony nominee David Bologna and Frank Dolce, who play Michael.
Students will learn choreography from Billy Elliot and also meet with the musical's casting director, Nora Brennan, to learn the ins-and-outs of auditioning. The final component of the workshop requires the participating schools to audition their one-act plays before a panel of theatre professionals.
