News   Black Dahlia Will Present World Premiere of New Musical Hey, Morgan!; Casting Announced

For the first time in Black Dahlia Theatre's ten-year history, the company will present a musical production. The world premiere of Hey, Morgan!, helmed by Dahlia artistic director Matt Shakman, will begin Oct. 7, prior to an official opening Oct. 15.

The musical, continuing through Nov. 19, features book, music and lyrics by Matt Fogel and Isaac Laskin with additional music by David Richman.

The cast of Hey, Morgan! includes Laskin, Martha Marion as Morgan Farkas, Adam Shapiro as Joe and Meagan English as Mrs. Farkas.

"Nothing extraordinary ever happened to Morgan Farkas...until her roommate wrote a musical about her life," according to press notes. "Hey, Morgan! is a charming, funny, occasionally filthy, and ultimately moving chronicle of a relatively normal Jewish girl from Brentwood—Morgan Farkas. In grand, pop musical tradition, it covers her life from 13 to 32—and beyond."

Other members of the creative team include choreographer Courtney Miller Jr., music director David Richman, set designer Craig Siebels, lighting designer Mike Durst, costume designer E.B. Brooks and sound designer Dave McKeever.

Members of the band include Richman, Ryan Janke, Mike Wendland, Sean Douglas and Jon Lee. The Black Dahlia Theatre dedicates itself to the development and production of new plays by both established and emerging writers. Since its founding in 2001, Dahlia productions have earned multiple BSW Garland, LADCC, LA Weekly, GLAAD, and LA Stage Alliance Ovation Awards.

The Dahlia is located at 5453 West Pico Boulevard (at Hauser, between Fairfax and La Brea), in Los Angeles. For more information and tickets, call (800) 838-3006 or visit www.thedahlia.com.
