The emo-rock musical earned critical acclaim when it opened April 6 and has been extended three times through June 27 at the downtown venue. Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson has also earned a place as the second highest grossing production in Public Theater history. The record holder is the Tony Award-nominated musical Caroline, or Change.
The grosses are encouraging news for a possible Broadway transfer for Bloody Bloody. Hair producer Jeffrey Richards has been approaching investors about an uptown move for the musical, which has reportedly been offered the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre, according to the New York Times. An official announcement of a future production has not been made.
The cast of Bloody Bloody features Benjamin Walker as Jackson, with River Aguirre as Lyncoya, James Barry as Male Soloist, Michael Crane as Clay/Blackhawk, Michael Dunn as Calhoun, Greg Hildreth as Red Eagle, Jeff Hiller as John Quincy Adams, Lucas Near-Verbrugghe as Martin Van Buren, Maria Elena Ramirez as Rachel, Kate Cullen Roberts as Elizabeth, Ben Steinfeld as Monroe, Colleen Werthmann as The Storyteller and Emily Young as Female Soloist.
The Public and Center Theatre Group, in association with Les Freres Corbusier, present the raucous rock musical that has a book by Timbers and a score by Friedman. Timbers also directs.
The production has scenic design by Donyale Werle, costume design by Emily Rebholz, lighting design by Justin Townsend and sound design by Bart Fasbender. Choreography is by Danny Mefford.
