Classic Arts News Boulez Conducts His Last Bayreuth Performance Pierre Boulez's August 23 appearance at the Richard Wagner Festival in Bayreuth will be his last, Le Monde reports.
The composer and conductor led a performance of Parsifal, which was the first opera he conducted at the festival in 1966. "I began with Parsifal and I will end with Parisifal," Boulez said.

Boulez recently turned 80 years old.

Boulez has conducted nearly a hundred operas at Bayreuth, and has recently published a book of photographs, Pierre Boulez _ Bayreuth in which he reminisces about his first year at the festival, conducting the opera directed by Wieland Wagner, the composer's grandson. In 1976, he conducted the controversial centennial version of the Ring cycle, directed by Patrice Ch_reau.
