The Premier Recordings catalog, created by veteran music executive Robert Stern in 1985, includes more than 75 titles devoted to American classical and theater music. Composers represented on the Premier label include Morton Gould, David Amram, Elie Siegmeister and William Perry. Performers include vocalist Judy Kaye, the Gregg Smith Singers, the London Symphony Orchestra, trumpeter Armando Ghitalla, and pianist Peter Mintun, among many others. Premier's arrangement with Bridge will include the distribution of new and previously unreleased titles.
GM Recordings was founded in 1981 by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Gunther Schuller, the father of the Third Stream movement. During the past 25 years GM has released more than 110 jazz, classical and multi-genre recordings. Included in the GM catalog is an extremely diverse range of composers and performers, including Scott Joplin, Milton Babbitt, John Knowles Paine, Elliott Carter, the Kronos Quartet, Joe Lovano, Dave Douglas, Ran Blake and Russell Sherman, as well as Schuller himself. GM's new releases as well as its back catalog will be represented by Bridge on the Internet.
Bridge's director, Becky Starobin, says that "the addition of these two superb labels to Bridge's Internet download catalog expands Bridge's holdings in three significant areas" jazz, contemporary classical music, and American theater music. Bridge looks forward to making these catalogs available to a wide audience in the coming months."
Founded in 1981 by guitarist David Starobin, Bridge Records is an independent label best known for its offerings of contemporary music (in particular the complete recorded works of George Crumb), though its catalog also includes such mainstream classical fare as the complete Beethoven piano sonatas (played by Garrick Ohlsson) and the Budapest String Quartet (with legendary conductor George Szell on piano) playing Brahms and Schubert. The label's recent release of the late mezzo Lorraine Hunt Lieberson singing her husband's Rilke Songs with pianist Peter Serkin is a nominee for the upcoming Grammy Awards.
