Vanessa Williams is currently developing a new sitcom that would cast her as a former Broadway star. Variety reports that Williams is working on the series for the NBC Network. Williams, who now stars as the Witch in the Tony-winning revival of Into the Woods, would play an actress who returns to her hometown. Her character would teach high school drama in her hometown, where she is also raising her children.
Williams will also co-produce the TV program, which would mark her first series TV role. Adam Belanoff will executive produce the as-of-yet unnamed project.
A Tony Award nominee for her role in Into the Woods, Williams has also appeared on Broadway in Kiss of the Spider Woman and in the City Center Encores! production of St. Louis Woman. Williams' screen credits include roles in "Soul Food," "Eraser," "Dance with Me" and "Shaft." Williams will leave the cast of Into the Woods on Dec. 22.
