News Broadway's Camp Crowned Trojan Queen Hecuba for Pearl Theatre Co. Staging Joanne Camp will star in the upcoming Pearl Theatre Company staging of Euripides' Hecuba in New York City.

Pearl artistic director Shepard Sobel will direct the staging to start Jan. 5, 2006 for a run through Feb. 12 at the company's downtown home.

In the Euripides classic, the titular proud Trojan queen who seeks out vengeance for the murder of her daughter.

Camp earned acclaim for her recent Pearl turn in The Imaginary Invalid (winning the Actor's Equity Callaway Award). The actress has also appeared on Broadway in Dinner At Eight, The Last Night of Ballyhoo, The Sisters Rosensweig and Coastal Disturbances as well as her Tony Award nominated role in The Heidi Chronicles. Other credits include Painting Churches, As It Is In Heaven, Geniuses and Lips Together, Teeth Apart.

Joining Camp in the cast of Hecuba are Pearl Theatre Company Resident Acting Company members Rachel Botchan, Dominic Cuskern and Carol Schultz. The ensemble also features Vinie Burrows, Mel England, Rocelyn Halili, Kelli Holsopple, Susan Hunt, Carolyn Ratteray, John Livingstone Rolle and Bashir Solebo.

The desgin team includes Susan Zeeman Rogers (set), Devon Painter (costumes), Stephn Petrilli (lighting) and Jane Shaw (sound) — who also provides original music. The new (entirely pre-1900) season at Pearl currently plays The Gentleman Dancing-Master (through Dec. 18) and continues following Hecuba with Measure For Measure (Feb. 23-April 9, 2006) and Mary Stuart (April 20 May 21, 2006). The Pearl Theatre Company mission is to present works from the classic repertory.
