Streisand starred on Broadway in the original staging of the Jules Styne musical Funny Girl as well as in I Can Get It for You Wholesale. Streisand made her film debut reprising her role as Fanny Brice in "Funny Girl" — winning an Oscar for her portrayal. She also starred on screen in "Hello, Dolly" and "On a Clear Day You Can See Forever." She received a special Tony Award in 1970 for her work over that past decade. Streisand also recently served as material for Daniel Stern's Off Broadway comedy, Barbra's Wedding.

"The Movie Album" comprises a personal selection of Streisand's favorite songs from films — spanning 1935-1988 — newly sung by the star. A limited edition version of the CD includes a special DVD and bonus CD with exclusive interviews with the singer.
