Classic Arts News Bryn Terfel's Illness Causes Postponement of BBC Broadcast The BBC cut short a live broadcast of a Covent Garden performance of Die Walk‹re yesterday because Welsh baritone Bryn Terfel was too ill to perform, the BBC News reports.
The broadcast on BBC Two, ended after the opera's first act, in which Terfel's character, Wotan, does not appear. The remaining two acts, with Wotan played by an understudy, were replaced with a film.

According to the IC North Wales web site, Terfel was suffering from a chest infection. Earlier this year, he lost his voice before a Ring cycle performance at Covent Garden, so he pantomimed the part while Donald McIntyre sang the role from the orchestra pit.

The BBC has rescheduled the broadcast, with Terfel, for May 7.
