Busch replaces the previously announced Tyne Daly in the upcoming reading, which is part of the acclaimed Project Shaw Series. Michael Riedel will be the host of the 7 PM performance, which will also feature the talents of Annie Golden, George S. Irving, Janine LaManna, Mary Beth Peil, Gareth Saxe and Louis Zorich. Jitta's Atonement, which is set in Vienna 1920, is described as such: "A forbidden romance and its consequences. [Charles Busch] stars as Jitta in a presentation of this rarely heard play. Loosely translated from a Viennese play by Siegfried Trebitsch, the 'atonement' isn't particularly profound but the wicked fun is."
The Project Shaw series is produced and directed by David Staller, who acted with Dana Ivey in Shaw's Mrs. Warren's Profession at the Irish Repertory Theatre. The series intends to offer every sketch, full-length and one-act play by the late playwright.
Past participants include Blair Brown, Mark Kudisch, Kerry Butler, Tyne Daly, Jonathan Hadary, Daniel Jenkins, Rebecca Luker, Michael Cerveris, Karen Ziemba, Michele Pawk, Bruce Vilanch, Jack Gilpin and George S. Irving.
Also scheduled for the 2008 Project Shaw season is Saint Joan (Dec. 22).
Project Shaw will continue in 2009 with Dark Lady of the Sonnets (Jan. 19), Boyant Billions (Feb. 16), GTG Benefit with O'Flaherty V.C.
