Broadway's Susan H. Schulman will stage Rodgers and Hammerstein's The King and I for the Stratford Festival in Ontario, in summer 2003, it was announced Aug. 27.
Schulman — whose Broadway credits include the most recent revival of The Sound of Music, the intimate Broadway revival of Sweeney Todd and The Secret Garden — helmed Stratford's Fiddler on the Roof in 2000. Among her other credits are Off Broadway's Violet, Time and Again, Merrily We Roll Along and Jack's Holiday. She staged the Encores! production of The Boys From Syracuse at City Center. She has recently been linked to the new musical, Little Women, by Allan Knee (book), Jason Howland (music) and Mindi Dickstein (lyrics).
Stratford's revival of the classic musical about a British teacher who moves to Siam to teach the royal children, opens May 27 at the flagship Festival Theatre. No casting has been announced.
Lerner and Loewe's Colette-inspired musical, Gigi, will also be presented in the season of 15 productions on four stages.
