Alexander, who directed this season's Reprise! mounting of Sunday in the Park with George, will work with producing director Jim Gardia, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Alexander told the California paper, "The immediate thing is to try and raise some money. The other part is to try to expand what they do. I have talked to them about including plays and play readings, concerts, speaker series and classes in musical theatre."
The actor hopes to plan more diverse work, which may include a production of Damn Yankees featuring an African-American and Latino cast. Alexander would also like to bring high-profile actors into the casts of the Reprise! productions.
Producing director Gardia told the paper, "We have talked a lot about where we would like Reprise to go, and we are on the same page. Being such a small organization, it's hard to produce several shows in a year, but with more help and with Jason on board, I think we'll be able to handle it and grow from that."
As previously announced, the Reprise! Broadway's Best series will expand from a three to a four-show season in 2007-2008. The series at UCLA's Freud Playhouse will include productions of On Your Toes, Damn Yankees, Li'l Abner and Flora, the Red Menace.
