Conductor Carlos Miguel Prieto has extended his contract as music director of the Huntsville (Alabama) Symphony through 2010, the Huntsville Times reports.

Prieto has led the orchestra since the fall of 2003. He is also associate conductor of the Houston Symphony and the music director designate of the Louisiana Philharmonic; he has appeared in several benefit concerts with the LPO since the orchestra was displaced by Hurricane Katrina last fall.

According to the Times, Prieto has helped to boost subscriptions, contributions, and visits from world-class soloists during his tenure in Huntsville.

The paper also reports that Prieto has been named to the Forum of Young Global Leaders, a group that meets annually at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
