Tony Award nominee Carmello, the powerhouse actress-singer, carries the show on her shoulders (leaving the stage for 11 minutes, plus intermission), playing evangelist Aimee Semple McPherson from her teen years onward.

The musical by Kathie Lee Gifford, David Friedman and David Pomeranz still officially opens on Nov. 15. Most of the major press has already attended performances, so no change of opening is expected due to Carmello's absence.

"Carmello has been sidelined with vocal fatigue, and by doctor's orders has been placed on a brief vocal rest," the producers said. Playbill learned that understudies have not been rehearsed to a point of immediate readiness during the Broadway preview process, which began Oct. 13.

Tickets purchased for the matinee through Ticketmaster via phone or internet will be refunded to credit cards automatically within 7-10 business days.

Tickets purchased at the Neil Simon Theatre Box Office should be returned to the box office in-person. Patrons have the option of receiving a full refund to the original method of payment or exchanging your tickets for an alternate date, subject to availability.

Tickets purchased through any other sales channel should be returned to the original point of purchase for more information.
