Rip Torn and Shirley Knight have been announced to star in the Broadway production of Horton Foote's surprise 1995 Pulitzer Prize winner, The Young Man From Atlanta, which is scheduled to open March 27, 1997 at a theatre to be announced. Robert Falls (The Food Chain, Night of the Iguana) will direct a cast that includes Rip Torn and Shirley Knight in the lead roles. Previews will begin March 4.

The play, in which a Texas couple of 1950 come to the unspoken realization that their late son was gay, premiered at off-Broadway's Signature Theatre, and had been scheduled to open on Broadway in the spring of 1996, but cancelled without giving an official reason. The show was reported in Variety to have done disappointing business during a national tour.
