Dali is a contemporary drama set in the desert heat of Barstow, California, where Gabriela, the wife of career soldier Benito, has discovered a surreal fantasy world to help her cope with his long absences. There, where the moon plays the violin and a cat dances with coyotes, are the poetry and passion she misses in "real" life.

Rivera was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico in 1955. His previous plays include Marisol, The House of Ramon Iglesias and Cloud Tectonics. Carillo directed the Pacific Playwrights Festival workshop production of Dali last June. She has also directed regionally in San Francisco, Louisville, New Jersey, Atlanta and L.A.

South Coast Rep is located at 655 Town Center Drive. For tickets and information call (714) 708-5555.
