News Casting and Further Plans Announced for 2013 Season at U.K.'s Sheffield Crucible and Lyceum Theatres Casting and further plans have been announced for the 2013 season at U.K.'s Sheffield Crucible and Lyceum Theatres by artistic director Daniel Evans.

Newly announced productions include Kay Mellor directing her own play A Passionate Woman with Lynda Bellingham and Christopher Timothy, to premiere at the Lyceum Theatre in September ahead of a national tour, and Paul Miller directing a new production of Shakespeare's The Winter's Tale in the Crucible in October. Casting for the already-announced production of Alan Bennett's The History Boys in May will include Matthew Kelly and Nicholas Day.

In addition, Mike Bartlett's Bull, premiered at the Crucible Studio in February, will transfer to New York's 59E59 Theaters in New York, as part of the Brits Off Broadway Festival, beginning performances April 22 for a run through June 2.

In a press statement, Daniel Evans commented, "Whilst this is undoubtedly a challenging time for us, having received our third round of local authority cuts in as many years, it's crucial that we continue to celebrate the essential part Sheffield Theatres plays in making Sheffield a vibrant place to live."

In The Crucible Theatre, Alan Bennett's The History Boys will begin performances May 16 prior to an official opening May 22, for a run through June 8. Michael Longhurst directs a cast that includes Ross Anderson (Rudge), Oliver Coopersmith (Posner), Nicholas Day (Headmaster), Tom Rhys Harries (Dakin), Regé-Jean Page (Crowther), Edward Judge (Timms), Matthew Kelly (Hector), Joshua Miles (Lockwood) and Edwin Thomas (Irwin).

In the Crucible Studio, the world premiere of Tim Firth's This Is My Family will begin performances June 19, prior to an official opening June 24, for a run through July 20. Daniel Evans directs a cast that includes Bill Champion, Evelyn Hoskins, Terence Keeley, Rachel Lumberg and Siân Phillips. In the Lyceum, Kay Mellor will direct a new production of her own 1992 play A Passionate Woman, beginning performances Sept. 10 prior to an official opening Sept. 12, for a run through Sept. 21. The cast will include Lynda Bellingham, Christopher Timothy and Peter McMillan, in this story of a woman who, on the morning of her son's wedding, goes up into the attic to dust. Surrounded by clutter, memories and ghosts from her past, Betty finds herself torn between the three men in her life - a husband she’s never really loved, a son she's about to lose and a man she had a passionate affair with over 30 years ago. Following its run at Sheffield, it will embark on a national tour, produced by David Pugh and Dafydd Rogers.

In the Crucible Theatre, The Winter's Tale will begin performances Oct. 2 prior to an official opening  Oct. 7, for a run to Nov. 2. Paul Miller, associate director at Sheffeld Theatres, directs a play in which family bonds and lifelong friendships are torn apart as one man's wild jealousy turns to tyranny.
