The fifth annual Brits Off-Broadway festival is readying its first-ever musical presentation, The Hired Man, which begins performances at 59E59 Theatres June 6.

The ongoing festival that features work from England, Scotland and Wales, includes the 1984 musical, which will be presented by the New Perspectives Theatre Company of Nottingham through June 29.

With music and lyrics by Howard Goodall and a book by Melvyn Bragg – based on his 1969 novel – The Hired Man "tells the timeless, moving story of a young married couple and their struggle to carve a living from the land, just as the rhythms of English country life are being interrupted by the gathering storm of war in Europe."

The creative team comprises Juliet Shillingford (production design), Mark Dymock (lighting design) and Richard Reeday (musical direction).

Brits Off-Broadway productions include Vincent River, Damascus, Artefacts, Blink and Some Kind of Bliss. Single tickets for Brits Off-Broadway range $27.50-$50. Four-show passes are also available for $125. For tickets and further information phone (212) 279-4200 or visit www.britsoffbroadway.com.
