Icebergs, a new play written by Alena Smith, will receive its world premiere at Los Angeles’ Geffen Playhouse November 8-December 18. Best known for her work as a writer on Showtime’s The Affair and HBO’s The Newsroom, Smith won the Edgerton Foundation New Play Award.
In Icebergs, Smith captures the plight of the thirtysomething as her characters grapple with filmmaking careers and family planning.
Icebergs will star Thora Birch, Nate Corddry, Rebecca Henderson, Lucas Neaer Verbrugghe and Keith Powell. Birch, best known to the younger set as Teeny in Now and Then and Jane Burnham in American Beauty, has been enjoying a bit of a comeback after taking time away from acting. She will be seen in the upcoming Above Suspicion, Public Affairs, The Competition and The Etruscan Smile. Corddry has been seen on Mom, Comedy Bang! Bang! and more.
The show will be directed by Geffen’s artistic director, Randall Arney.
