Cerveris earned a nomination last year for his title turn in Sweeney Todd, which followed his 2004 Tony win for another Stephen Sondheim musical, Assassins. The actor, who was also nominated for The Who's Tommy, will vie this season for Best Actor in a Musical for his performance as Kurt Weill in LoveMusik.
Director Doyle earned his first Tony nomination and win last year for his unique staging of Sweeney Todd. Using the same technique — where the actors also play the instruments — he earned his way back to Tony night for another Sondheim work, Company. (He again helped his star, this time Raúl Esparza, earn a Leading Actor nod.)
This year's nomination for his dance work on Curtains (and the musical-within the-musical) marks Ashford's third recognition. Last season, he worked 1980's moves into a Tony nom for The Wedding Singer, following his first nomination and win in 2002 for Thoroughly Modern Millie.
