News Chekhov-Inspired Gulls Will Make World Premiere in Pasadena July 17 Anton Chekhov's The Seagull gets a musical makeover this summer: Nick Salamone and Maury McIntyre's Gulls will make its world premiere in Pasadena July 17.

The Theatre @ Boston Court presents the new musical that is loosely based on Chekhov's classic work. Playwright Salamone (Hillary Agonistes) has penned book and lyrics for Gulls, which features a score by McIntyre (Moscow).

Jessica Kubzansky directs the production that will run July 17-Aug. 24 at the Boston Court Performing Arts Center. Opening night is scheduled for July 26.

The cast for Gulls comprises Marc Cardiff, Will Collyer, Clinton Derricks-Carroll, John Keefe, Robert Mammana, Rendé Rae Norman, Sabrina Sloan, Eileen T'Kaye, Grace Wall and Harrison White.

In Gulls, press notes state, "it's 1959 Greenwich Village and Hollywood, and a family of troubled dreamers yearns for love, immortality and survival. Irenie, a glamorous Broadway star, Gore, her novelist/screenwriter lover, Conrad, her Beat poet son, and Nina, the lovely young African-American everyone loves, engage in an epic struggle for passion and connection in this haunting new musical, rich with Chekhovian longing."

The creative team also includes Greg Chun (musical director), Kitty McNamee (choreography), Michelle Ney (scenic design), Alex Jaeger (costume design), Jeremy Pivnick (lighting design), Martin Carrillo (sound design), Nick Santiago (props design) and Becca Coffman (make-up design).
