"The play was inspired by interviews conducted by Ms. Ramirez during a six month period in New York State's Sullivan County."
The production is part of the second annual Theater:Village festival, which presents a series of new plays in prominent West Village theatres based around the work of one playwright or common theme.
Scenic design is by Rachel Hauck, lighting design is by Russell Champa, costume design is by Theresa Squire and sound design is by Jill Du Boff. Ramirez's plays include Exit Cuckoo, Art of Memory, Invisible Women-Rise, To The Bone and All Fall Down.
A Gala event will be held at the theatre to celebrate its 90th anniversary Oct. 6. The event will honor Academy Award-winning actress and Cherry Lane alum Estelle Parsons (The Velocity of Autumn, Nice Work If You Can Get It); along with David and Elizabeth McFadzean, leading supporters and funders of Cherry Lane Theatre for the past two decades.
The event will also feature appearances by Oscar winner Olympia Dukakis (Rose, Social Security) and Tony Award winner Judith Ivey (Hurlyburly, Steaming) as they perform selections from plays produced at Cherry Lane Theatre since it first opened its doors in 1924. Parsons' history with Cherry Lane dates back to 1962 when she appeared in three plays there: Mrs. Dally Has A Lover, Whisper Into My Good Ear, both by William Hanley, and This Side Of The Door, by Terrence McNally.
Additional performers will be announced at a later date.
