News Cherry Lane Theatre to Honor Estelle Parsons at 90th Anniversary Gala; Season Will Kick Off With Premiere of To The Bone Cherry Lane Theatre will begin its 90th season Off-Broadway with the world premiere of Lisa Ramirez's politically charged drama To The Bone.

Directed by Lisa Peterson, the production will begin previews Sept. 9 prior to an official opening Sept. 17.

The cast includes Lisa Ramirez, Annie Henk, Liza Fernandez, Paola Lazaro-Munoz, Xochitl Romero, J.J. Perez, Gerardo Rodriguez and Haynes Thigpen.

"A contemporary American drama, To The Bone is about Latina immigrant poultry workers in the U.S. and in the spirit of John Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men gives audiences a look inside the lives of the invisible work force that puts food on our tables," press notes state. "The play was inspired by interviews conducted by Ms. Ramirez during a six month period in New York State's Sullivan County."

The production is part of the second annual Theater:Village festival, which presents a series of new plays in prominent West Village theatres based around the work of one playwright or common theme.

Scenic design is by Rachel Hauck, lighting design is by Russell Champa, costume design is by Theresa Squire and sound design is by Jill Du Boff. Morgan Jenness is dramaturg, Terri Kohler is stage manager and Theresa Von Klug is general manager. Ramirez's plays include Exit Cuckoo, Art of Memory, Invisible Women-Rise, To The Bone and All Fall Down.

A Gala event will be held at the theatre to celebrate its 90th anniversary Oct. 6. The event will honor Academy Award-winning actress and Cherry Lane alum Estelle Parsons (The Velocity of Autumn, Nice Work If You Can Get It); along with David and Elizabeth McFadzean, leading supporters and funders of Cherry Lane Theatre for the past two decades.

The event will also feature appearances by Oscar winner Olympia Dukakis (Rose, Social Security) and Tony Award winner Judith Ivey (Hurlyburly, Steamingas they perform selections from plays produced at Cherry Lane Theatre since it first opened its doors in 1924. Parsons' history with Cherry Lane dates back to 1962 when she appeared in three plays there: Mrs. Dally Has A Lover, Whisper Into My Good Ear, both by William Hanley, and This Side Of The Door, by Terrence McNally.
